Dear Ron,
I have been meaning to write you for a month or so, and decided to do it before ’97 ends.
’97 brought some closure to us in terms of the case being settled out of court. For this we are grateful. But when we think “grateful,” we think of you. I know Maureen wants to personally write you as well at some point, so let me just speak for myself.
This tragedy was incomprehensibly difficult for us. I know you appreciated that. While everything was handled with consummate professional skill, I never felt I was just talking to a lawyer. I always felt I was talking to a father. For this I will always be most grateful. For this I will always hold you in great esteem.
It has not escaped my notice, either, that you could have charged us more than you did. Again, my sincere thanks.
Maureen and the kids are doing well, though for us as parents I think there will forever be a certain “complexity” to the great lessons of life and faith. Perhaps this is inevitable – most every important or joyful moment brings Johnny back to mind.
God forbid I should ever need to direct anyone toward you for reasons such as ours. However, if the occasion were ever to sadly arise, you would be the first person on my mind. I hope that conveys some of my esteem and respect.
Our prayer is that God would bless and protect you & your family and increase your awareness of His love in your life. I hope life is working out great!
All the best,
Gregory
P.S. Please convey our similar sentiments to Kathleen; she was great.
